The Nuwave chef cooks a mealOn first glance, a Nuwave doesn’t really appear to be an oven at all. It’s compact (about 14″ wide by 16″ high), comprised of a glass dome equipped with a control panel (analog or digital) sitting on top of a base. It’s only when you notice that it contains a heating element, a fan, a rack, and a drip pan that you realize what it’s for.

If you look further, you may also find that the oven has other features including extender rings to add to the oven’s capacity, the supreme pizza and baking kits, a blender, and a carrying case. It goes for $100-$120, sometimes payable in 3 small payments.

Looking over the Nuwave oven reviews, it seems as if just about everybody is saying positive things about Nuwaves. You can see why. With intuitive controls and an easy-to-use, efficient, mostly trouble-free oven, this seems to be a well-designed addition to your kitchen. It’s easy to clean and doesn’t heat up your kitchen.

What Nuwaves Can Do

One strong point of Nuwaves is their reputed cooking speed. Some say they can cook a meal in as little as half the time that regular ovens take. They also let you cook more than one thing at the same time, saving even more time.

Nuwave Cooked MealAnother feature of Nuwaves is their ability to cook items straight from freezer without defrosting, sometimes in less than half an hour. They are best at cooking meat, even a whole turkey or chicken. They can bake, boil, broil, grill, dehydrate, roast, and air fry, turning out juicier and browner fish and meats. They are supposed to be able to manage cakes, cookies, pies, or cheesecake, too, but there may be some doubt about that.

One surprising benefit of cooking with a Nuwave is the way the fat content of meats and other foods are melted out and drip down into the removable drip tray. Chicken, bacon, and beef will be much easier on the calories and better for your health. Even professional nutritionists like it. For most of us, the difference is in the less greasy but still juicy meat.

How They Do It

Nuwaves accomplish this beneficial result by combining 3 technologies as it cooks: conduction, convection, and infrared. The conduction is just the way a regular oven works. Convection adds air currents to help spread the heat around evenly. Finally, infrared light is actually just heat, but at a controlled frequency to heat the food faster. All together these heating methods cook your food faster than you’re probably used to.

Efficiency is a major factor in the benefits you receive by using a Nuwave. Since it doesn’t need preheating, you’ll use a lot less energy. Estimates of the power savings are in the area of 80%-85%. A Nuwave also doesn’t radiate much heat, so you don’t pay to double-heat your kitchen. In addition, if you cook more than one food simultaneously, you’ll naturally save even more.

Some Added Benefits

As if all this capability and savings aren’t enough, Nuwaves are easy to use and trouble-free as well. During cooking, the durable dome cover and drip pan prevent spatters. When it’s time to clean up, you’ll love the removable parts that you can wash with soapy water or simply put in the dishwasher. You can easily scrape clean the grid and drip tray. You won’t have to worry about which cookware to use, either, since Nuwaves can handle pyrex, metal, foil, and frozen dinner trays. Last but not least, the oven is small enough to carry along in a motorhome or camper.

Nuwave CookingIf you’re getting so overwhelmed and short of time that you have difficulty finding time to cook, a Nuwave oven can be a big help. Whether you own a business that’s growing fast and taking all your attention, trying to keep up with your family’s diverse tastes, or trying to keep in shape and eat better, it’s a great replacement for a microwave, and reportedly much healthier.

If you need more room inside the Nuwave, you’ll find the extender rings are quite handy for giving you 50% more room inside it. Then when you want to figure out how to actually use the oven, you’ll no doubt be relieved to discover the accompanying cooking guide as well as recipes and manuals, which provide help and suggestions for cooking techniques and times for different foods.

Issues and Fixes

As with any product, owners may experience hiccups in cooking with their Nuwaves. Users note that even though it excels at cooking meats and fish, it may not perform as well with pizza, fries, or vegetables.

Pizza has to be cooked upside down for part of the cooking cycle, which can result in toppings sliding out of place. Foods sometimes dry out during cooking, which can be countered by adding some water to the liner pan. Meat and vegetables will soak in the moisture from the pan, and any fat will drip into the water making cleaning even easier.

Another issue relates to the cooking times provided for frozen food. Many users find that they have to cook these items longer than what’s listed in the table. It must be admitted, however, that these times are only approximations. Many users report that they get around this issue by simply adjusting their times. In addition, you can speed cooking by using disposable pans made of aluminum which can be reused.

One other complaint concerns crisp food getting soggy. The user suggestion to remedy this one is simply to take food out of the oven as soon as it is cooked enough.

Note that the dome may appear fragile but is in fact quite durable. Naturally, mishaps can occur, but these are seldom reported by users.

Glitches have been reported during the order process as well. Some users complain about being enthusiastically offered accessories while ordering. The reviewer has to confess that while doing phone work in the past, he noticed that he occasionally made mistakes even while attempting to do his best. This experience has led him to take it easy on the poor soul answering the phone for the 57th time that day (or night).

One complaint which is not a real issue is the practice of reimbursing customers who return their ovens for the product cost but not for the return shipping. In fact, this is an industry standard practice.

Conclusion

What the Nuwave oven reviews boil down to is that the Nuwave oven is an excellent product that can please a large number of people. While it may not be a complete replacement for your toaster oven, it appears to work remarkably well if you use it for cooking poultry, meat, and fish.
